Set outside New York’s city walls in Maplewood Village, New Jersey, Luke’s Kitchen gives white tables restaurants a run for their money. Chef and Owner Rod Hernandez, who has been a customer of Samuels since his days at the Marriott Marquis, is packing the house night after night and serving up some of the most delicious seafood dishes around.

Luke’s Kitchen is a small, intimate place and up until recently reservations were recommended, not required. That was until the word got out about the delectable, fresh fish, specifically the Dover Sole for Two. This Dover Sole comes directly from England’s Channel Fisheries and the quality is par to none according to Rod. According to him “everyone that’s had the Dover Sole states point blank that it is the best fish they have ever had.” Or maybe it’s the ever-so-fresh, roasted Halibut (served in a miso broth with shrimp noodles and wild, local mushrooms) that’s feeding the frenzy. Whatever it is, everyone in the area is a buzz with the seafood that Rod is offering.

Although it’s located in North Jersey, Luke’s Kitchen provides world-class meals to satisfy its well traveled customers and their experienced taste buds. In fact, customers are thrilled to be able to “roll down the hill and have some of the best fish they have ever had in their travels.” Other customers are declaring that when it comes to fish, Luke’s is ten times better than anywhere in the area.
At Luke’s Kitchen the menu changes regularly with the best, freshest ingredients available on the market on any given day. They serve contemporary cuisine with global accents with as few boundaries as possible. Although the underlying technique in the kitchen is French, influences come from everywhere.
